Vladimir Propp
Vladimir Propp says that there are eight types of character. These are them below.
Hero - often the main character, everyone roots for him. We are usually following the story from their perspective
Villain - tries to stop the hero in his tracks/the hero is trying to stop the villain in his tracks
Donor - usually appears as a sidekick is there to provide information and tools to the hero to help them succeed
Dispatcher - person that sends the hero out on the mission.
False hero - is seen as loveable at the beginning
Helper - provides information/tools at a crucial point in the story
Princess - the princess is usually what the hero is seeking. The hero is often sent out to rescue said princess
Princess' father - The princess' father is there to reward the hero, can also act as a dispatcher.

Todorov's theory.

All narrative plots are the same and they have 5 parts:
1. Equilibrium – Normal day to day life, sets the barrier of normal lifestyle
2. Disruption – Something abnormal that changes the trajectory.
3. Realisation – Understanding that disequilibrium has occurred
4. Restored Order – Successful attempt to restore equilibrium
5. New Equilibrium – Back to normal day to day life, but better as they grown from the experience.
