Lighting is a very important aspect of a thriller film because it can create a scary atmosphere and suspense very easily. Also it means you can tell what sort of scene it is going to by the lighting. Also a particular lighting for a type of film e.g. a thriller, means you can identify it by just the lighting itself.
Low key lighting, a dark back light is used to represent a dark and scary atmosphere which can be mysterious. The lighting can also represent the personality of a character e.g. a dark light representing a dangerous or mean character and a bright light to represent a nice ,happy character. Shadows and other hidden elements can reflect of lighting.

Black and white visual effects can be used to create a different feel to a thriller film. Some films start of with colour and then half way through the film it changes into black and white to suggest a darker and scarier atmosphere and surroundings. This can be very effective and different to other films,
